What are cookies?
Cookies and other similar technologies such as local shared objects, flash cookies, or pixels are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about their visitors, as well as to ensure the proper functioning of the site.
Through the use of these devices, the web server can remember certain data concerning the user, such as their preferences for viewing pages on that server, username and password, products of greatest interest, etc.
Cookies affected by regulations and exempt cookies
According to the EU directive, cookies that require the informed consent of the user are analytics, advertising, and affiliation cookies, while technical cookies and those necessary for the operation of the website or the provision of services expressly requested by the user are exempt.
What types of cookies exist?
According to ownership:
First-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal from a device or domain managed by the editor itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
Third-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal from a device or domain not managed by the editor, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
According to duration:
Session cookies: Designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a web page.
Persistent cookies: Data remain stored in the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie controller, which can range from a few minutes to several years.
According to functionality:
Necessary cookies: Essential for the correct functioning of the website. They do not collect any user data and may store information such as language preferences or whether the cookie policy has been accepted.
Analytics cookies: Either managed by us or by third parties, these allow us to quantify the number of users and thus carry out the measurement and statistical analysis of how users make use of the offered service. For this purpose, browsing activity on our website is analyzed in order to improve the range of products or services we provide.
Advertising or marketing cookies: These allow the most efficient management possible of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included on a website, application, or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the edited content or the frequency in which the ads are displayed.
Behavioral advertising or personalized marketing cookies: These allow the most efficient management possible of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included on a website, application, or platform from which the requested service is provided. These cookies store information on users’ behavior obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which makes it possible to develop a specific profile to display advertising accordingly. Likewise, when visiting certain websites or opening emails containing advertisements or promotions about our products or services, a cookie may be installed in your browser that helps us later display advertising related to the search you have carried out, and also allows us to monitor our advertisements in relation to, for example, the number of times they are viewed, where they appear, and at what time they are seen.
